The Role: Engineering Manager – Backend Platforms

We are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a team responsible for building and scaling the core backend infrastructure powering a new product initiative. This role combines technical leadership, people management, and strategic execution.

You will be responsible for leading a team of backend engineers, driving architectural decisions, and ensuring the delivery of highly scalable, secure, and reliable systems that support web and mobile applications. You'll partner closely with Product, Infrastructure, and cross-functional engineering teams while helping shape both the technical direction and engineering culture.

What You'll Do

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of backend engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Drive the design, development, and operation of high-performance backend systems, APIs, and data platforms.
  • Define and execute the technical roadmap for backend services and platform capabilities.
  • Partner closely with Product, Frontend, Infrastructure, and DevOps teams to deliver scalable solutions and exceptional user experiences.
  • Architect secure, resilient, and highly available systems capable of supporting large transaction volumes.
  • Establish and promote engineering best practices, including code quality, testing, observability, and deployment processes.
  • Drive technical decision-making and provide guidance on architecture, scalability, and performance optimization.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing engineering talent.
  • Manage project delivery, prioritization, and execution across multiple initiatives.
  • Stay current on emerging technologies and industry trends across backend engineering, fintech, digital assets, and AI.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, including substantial backend development experience.
  • 2+ years of engineering management experience leading software engineering teams.
  • Strong technical background with hands-on experience building applications using:
    • Node.js
    • Express.js
    • TypeScript
    • NestJS (preferred)
  • Experience building and scaling RESTful APIs and distributed systems.
  • Strong understanding of SQL databases; experience with NoSQL technologies is a plus.
  • Experience designing and operating microservices and event-driven architectures.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with caching technologies and messaging platforms such as Kafka.
  • Proficiency with modern development tools and practices, including Git-based workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and observability frameworks.
