Systems Analyst

Technical Business Analyst, 5 months contract, Remote Romania, €350 per day

JOB PURPOSE

The overall purpose of this role is to carry out impact analyses and design activities on a range of applications. Assessing how best to meet requirements is key, preferably using a methodological approach. You will be working closely with the IS Project Managers, Business Analysts, Developers, Testers and end users.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

You will:
• Work with Business Analysts and end users to understand the project aims, requirements and priorities of each initiative.
• Develop an understanding of the business processes, their strengths and weaknesses.
• Assess the impact of meeting the requirements on the applications portfolio.
• Identify the design options, assess these and recommend the most appropriate solution.
• Work closely with the Architecture, Development and Testing teams to ensure effective implementation of the chosen design.
• Assess success of the design in meeting the requirements post deployment and learn from the experience.
• Contribute to prioritisation and phasing plans in liaison with the Project Manager.
• Help the Project Manager run development using Agile frameworks.
• Facilitate estimation sessions to help plan and cost new work.
• Test or help to test applications and system changes when required.
• Be part of inter-team design initiatives and share knowledge with other Systems Analysts so that work across all systems is coherent.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Technical & Professional Skills
• Experience in systems analysis and design of new applications and enhancements to existing applications.
• Experience of requirements capture.
• Experience of business modelling in the form of process flows and entity modelling using UML.
• Ability to use prototyping or mock-ups where appropriate.
• Experience of capturing and documenting of non-functional requirements.
• Knowledge of how to effectively perform impact analysis.
• Experience of producing specifications to a level of detail that will allow the Development team to progress with the implementation.
 • Knowledge of Agile/iterative development methodologies.
• Ability to work with Team Foundation Server in creating user stories, tasks and grooming backlogs.
• Good estimation skills and the ability to work with developers to create development estimates, for example in a poker planning session.
• Good SQL and database design skills.
• Experience of structured test plans and their execution, including on systems that may not be familiar to you.
• Experience in assessing 3rd party tools/software and carrying out gap analysis.
• The role requires some experience of the full systems development lifecycle from inception to support.
• Knowledge of service-orientated architecture and domain driven design would be an advantage.
• Exposure to Project Management.
• Experience of the media industry, especially broadcasting, would be a distinct advantage - but is by no means essential to the role.

Service-orientated architecture as a term starts to be a bit ancient. Perhaps change that to: Knowledge of composable architecture and microservices would be an advantage. Also there is no mention of cloud, so maybe add: Experience in cloud technologies, AWS and/or Azure.

Autonomy/Judgement/Decision Making
• Acumen to identify and act on any wider business issues, that need to be reported back to the IS department, including audit considerations.
• Ability to work harmoniously and effectively within a team.
• Self-motivated and capable to handle autonomy.
• Capable of making design decisions with support of Architecture, Development and Testing teams.

Relationship Management (internal, external, 3rd parties)
• Excellent communication skills: persuasive, with the ability to present ideas verbally and in writing.
• Ability to communicate technical information to a non-technical audience is vital.
• Strong customer facing skills.
• Experience of dealing with 3rd parties in addressing business developments.

Complexity/Problem Solving
• The ideal candidate will have experience of a range of medium-large multi-user systems and will be able to quickly grasp the essentials of existing systems and how they interact.
• Solid analysis skills are essential.
• Strong investigative abilities and attention to detail are vital.
• Ability to handle conflicting opinions within a team and to gain a consensus on the way forward.
• Flexible and adaptable, capable to perform well within a fast changing environment.
